Why should I be involved as a class parent

Mina Lopato is a school run by a staff and governed by a board. This is a model that works very well to ensure the needs and values of the parents are upheld. It is also an effective way to get parents involved in the school and therefore in their children's education. By bringing in their skill sets and volunteering involvement in both the day to day aspects and bigger decisions, parents help ensure our offering is of the standard only achieved by people truly invested in the outcomes.

Mina has another dimension of input which comes in the form of our class parents who are a hugely important liaison between the school and parent body. They let parents know what is going on, both in the class and in the school, as well as let the school know what is going on in the parent body. When someone has a baby, class parents make sure there is opportunity to facilitate meals, lifts and/or playdates.
If a parent or child are away, or in hospital, they offer good wishes, so that parents know that they and their children are part of a community where their presence is noticed.
They also co-ordinate end of year gifts and help organise fundraisers and communal events.

Most of our parent body work, and we appreciate how incredibly busy everyone is, so we try as much as possible to make the involvement we need, as easy and undemanding as possible.

Please let your class parents know if you are keen to help out for next year to be involved, I look forward to welcoming you onboard and working with you.

Being a good parent should not come at the expense of being — or raising — a good citizen. Parents ought to consider how helping one’s own child get ahead in society may not be as big a gift as helping create a more just society for them to live in in the future
