COVID19 week 4 Update

What an exciting and busy start to the second term. A big well done to teachers who have jumped on board the Contact Schooling ship and are planning and Zooming and connecting so competently with you all. Thanks parents who are helping technically to ensure sessions are happening and are as smooth as possible.

The theme of Autumn has inspired so much creativity, using the tools people have at hand. Toilet rolls, leaves and sticks from the garden and a little glue or not. Those who have paint have used that and regardless of access to equipment everyone could make something. Creativity, problem solving and engagement were achieved.

We have had parents sharing recipes for bread, vetkoek and gourmet snacks made from the most simple ingredients. We see pictures of siblings chilling together, playing with each other and videos of 2-3 year olds singing happy birthday to friends. that's just the beginning. Its wonderful to see parents who are juggling jobs, housework, babies, toddlers and little people taking the time to share pictures, ideas, websites and videos with their ML family. Who knew that you can use spices to colour your play dough if you have run out of food colouring?! Keep them all coming.

In and among all the chaos and fun there is so much learning taking place. We have Grade R moulding letters and numbers, children sitting quietly (and not so quietly)listening to stories and we have Playball videos keeping children active.

All in all ML is the school to in during Lockdown. Thank you everyone and remember you are doing your best in these different times and that's enough.

Be flexible, be kind and be safe.

Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best
